Singing Session Information and Costs

All instructional content will be presented in a SESSION format. These sessions are based upon materials contained within the publication “The Practical Singer.” Each session offering will consist of technical information pertaining to the subject area being shared. With each session Mr. Norris will provide as part of the fee, PDF’s of the session material, including study sheets.

Although not mandatory, purchasing a copy of The Practical Singer might prove beneficial for students electing to take multiple sessions. If interested, see the dropdown tab labeled “The Practical Singer.”

The basic fee per one-hour session is $150.00 (US) per session hour. 

With sessions listing a prerequisite, a review of the previously studied session(s) will be included.

Vocal Technique Sessions (1-7)

For Sessions 1-4, each session builds on knowledge from previous sessions and must be taken in sequence.

Session 1: Posture, Breathing: Inhalation

Session 1 - Presented in one hour (No prerequisites needed)

Contents: 

  • Posture, Breathing: Inhalation – Physiological Aspects, Image Inhalation Approach

Session Tuition - $150

Session 2: Physical Approach, Exhalation, Relaxed Neutral Throat

Session 2 - Presented in one hour (Session 1 is a prerequisite for Session 2)

Contents: 

  • Review Session 1. Breathing: Inhalation – Physical Approach, Exhalation, Relaxed Neutral Throat

Session Tuition - $150 

Session 3: Tongue and Jaw Relaxation

Session 3 - Presented in one hour (Sessions 1 & 2 are prerequisites for Session 3)

Contents: 

  • Review Sessions 1 & 2. Tongue and Jaw Relaxation, with a mid-body connection.

Session 4: Lower Back Engagement, Support For The Support, Johnson Breathing Exercises

Session 4 - Presented in one hour (Sessions 1, 2, and 3 are prerequisites for Session 4)

Session Tuition - $150 

Sessions 5-7 can be taken independently at any time with no prerequisites needed.

Session 5: Register Understanding and Implementation

Session 5 - Presented in one hour (No prerequisites needed)

Session 6: Vowel Understanding, Implementation, and Enhancement

Session 6 - Presented in one hour (No prerequisites needed)

  • Vowel Modification - Understanding and Implementation

Session Tuition - $150 

Session 7: Resonance Understanding, Chest Voice, Head Voice

Session 7 - Two sessions presented in two individual hours. (No prerequisites needed)

Contents:

  • Resonance Understanding, Chest Voice - Understanding and Implementation, Soft Palate Lift - Understanding and Implementation, Head Voice - Understanding and Implementation

Music Development Sessions (8-9)

In sessions 8 & 9, Mr. Norris presents ideas to implement foundational methods to embellish the vocalist’s song literature learning and to promote musical singing.

College Level Audition Session

In these extremely vital sessions Mr. Norris draws upon his wealth of knowledge that seeks to enhance the preparation and execution of a student’s audition for university and conservatory level programs in classical voice. In these presentations, Mr. Norris draws upon his extensive experience having prepared and guided hundreds of his private students through many thousands of successful auditions.

Session 10: College Audition Preparation For Classical Vocal Studies

Session 10 – Three Sessions presented in three individual hours. (No prerequisites needed)

Contents:

  • College Audition Preparation For Classical Vocal Studies.
  • Note: each singer must provide an MP3 of their college audition literature accompaniment(s)

In session 11, Mr. Norris offers a one-hour solo and ensemble session to critique and advise the young student desiring to best present themselves in this traditional High-School musical competition.
